A specimen stamp is a specially marked postage stamp sent to postmasters and postal administrators so that they are able to identify genuine postage stamps and avoid forgeries. Usually, specimen stamps are overprinted with the word “Specimen” across the stamp, in ink or perforations. This invalidates the stamps, and identifies them as specimens.
