Magna Carta

    Approved by England’s King John in 1215, the Magna Carta was one of the first steps toward a constitutional government in England. This document became the basis for American common law, and has been used as a model of government for nations around the world. Virginia native and American patriot Thomas Jefferson was influenced by the Magna Carta when he wrote the Declaration of Independence.
