This stamp replaced the Harvey Cushing, M.D. stamp of the Great Americans Series. Its 45¢ rate paid the second 1/2 ounce rate on all international mail. The pumpkinseed sunfish is found in the ponds and lakes of eastern, northern, and northwestern United States, and is fished for both food and sport. An addition to the Wildlife Series, this colorful little fish has a gold body flecked with green, red, and blue.
